This Dramatic Portrait
In the struggle between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for greed in this director's brilliantly over-the-top biopic about the fallen religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who proclaims at the beginning, asserting religious justification for riches. Both individuals begin capitalizing on the American public's religious faith. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and hypocrisy, though Chastain manages to show the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. Tuesday 14 October, late night, Film4
