New England Match Longest Victory Run From Brady Era with Triumph Against Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has scored five TDs in the present year
New England matched their best victory streak from the Brady period as they beat division rivals the Jets 27-14 in professional football
First-year standout Henderson led the way with three touchdowns as the Patriots notched an eighth straight win for the first time since star signal-caller Brady's final season with the franchise in the 2019 season
Quarterback Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a score, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
The triumph bolsters the New England's advantage at the top of the division as they moved to a 9-2 record, with the New York at the foot after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The Jets had scored first at Foxborough with QB Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard touchdown to conclude the New York's initial series
But the New England fought back in the second quarter as Henderson rushed for two short rushing scores before the ball carrier hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the rear of the end zone in the middle of the third period to extend the lead to 21-7
"It was a crucial moment for him stepping up, and it's been great for him to keep getting these reps," Maye said of the rookie. "He wants to be excellent."
Justin Fields found John Metchie toward the end of the third period to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Andy Borregales kicked a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side sealed the triumph
