The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
